    The Royal Burgh of Culross in Fife is a town that time has passed by (it also featured in Outlander). Explore the beautiful refurbished Palace which dates from 1597 and take a wander around the reconstructed early 17th-century palace garden.

    Hidden away in the rural idyll of East Linton resides an architectural oddity beloved by artists and photographers. Preston Mill, with its distinctive Dutch style conical-roof, was East Lothian’s last working water mill. It also featured in the first season of Outlander.

    High on a hill in Helensburgh overlooking the River Clyde sits Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic creation. Mackintosh even designed nearly everything inside The Hill House too, from the decorative schemes and the furniture to the fittings and contents.

    This monument to the final Jacobite Rising stands amid spectacular Highland scenery at the head of Loch Shiel. You should also be able to spot the equally impressive Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous for its starring role in the Harry Potter films.
