Grandfather Mountain Highland Games 2022
On behalf of all of us at The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA, thank you for stopping by our booth at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. With rain and shine, bagpipes and bridies, and sportsmanship and kinship, the spirit of Scotland was certainly alive in the highlands of North Carolina! Emily and Lisa from our team in the United States and Catriona from the Trust’s team at Culloden enjoyed meeting each and every one of you. It was a pleasure to hear your stories, and to share information about what we do to support the Trust’s work in caring for Scotland’s special places—from coastlines to castles—for today and forever.
The highlight of our weekend at the Games was being able to meet and connect with our members and Clan Partners. Your support allows us to do what we do, and we are so grateful. While we did not have the opportunity to say hello to everyone that we hoped due to the weather, we would always love to hear from you.
Below is a video capturing the essence of the Parade of Tartans, one of the key events of the Games. The Parade of Tartans involved over 100 Clans and associations marching around the Games field, waving their clans’ tartan flags in the rain. The Parade signifies the importance of Clan connections and is a special moment of the Games.
We are delighted to share with you this photo album of our experience at the Games – we hope you enjoy looking through these and reminiscing about the weekend.
